9 TV Lawyers We'd Hire If Our Lives Depended On It

TV is filled with plenty of attorneys from criminal defense to corporate law, interns to named partners and the high powered elite to the opportunistic ambulance chasers, but, let's face it, not everyone is at the top of their game.

We took a look at the best lawyers currently on TV and tried to decide... if we were facing a prison term of 30 years to life, if a scandal threatened to derail everything we loved or if someone was out to destroy the business we'd worked so hard to create, who would we call? Which attorney would we pay our hard earned money in the hopes that they could save our skins?

Read on and find out the top 9 TV lawyers we'd choose if our lives were on the line...

1. Jessica Pearson - Suits

Getting harveys opinion
Technically, Pearson, Spector, and Litt is a corporate law firm, but who wouldn't want Jessica on their team? Somehow this woman has managed to wrangle Harvey, Mike, and Louis, not to mention all of the other sharks in her firm, and make them work together, or at least get them to pull in the same direction. Jessica is a badass, and we can’t imagine we'd need anyone else if she were in our corner.

2. Diane Lockhart - The Good Wife

Dianes stress relief
Yes, Alicia is incredibly competent, and Cary can be cut throat, but Diane is the perfect combination of everything we're looking for in a top-notch attorney. Brilliant, professional, and experienced enough to know when to play by the rules and when to bend them to her advantage. If our life was on the line, we'd trust Diane Lockhart to bring out the big guns to save us.

3. Olivia Pope - Scandal

Olivia takes a call scandal s4e8
So, Olivia Pope doesn't specifically work as an attorney any longer, but now she wears the white hat and has close ties to the White House. If your legal woes include a scandal of epic proportions, you may need more than a good lawyer. You may need a Gladiator on your side! Then you'll need Olivia Pope.

4. Mitchell Pritchett - Modern Family

Mitchell pritchett modern family
OK, so maybe we wouldn’t actually call Mitchell if we were facing 30-to-life in the slammer, but if we were trying to save the lives of baby seals, Mitch would be our first phone call.

5. Erin Reagan - Blue Bloods

Helping a friend blue bloods
Erin is an Assistant District Attorney so, technically, she'd be looking to put us in jail, not keep us out of it, but Erin has considered switching sides in the past. Erin would make an incredibly smart, driven defense attorney and best of all, she'll know exactly how the opposite side works. We'd hire her in a New York minute.

6. Aiden Jennings - Days of Our Lives

Aidens ulterior motive days of our lives
Aiden's background and morals may have recently been called into question, but so far he's proven to be one of the best attorneys Salem has seen in a long time. From handling JJ’s legal messes to Clyde’s questionable investments, Aiden’s proven he's willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 1 Review: Worst Case Scenario

$

After watching Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 1, I couldn’t help but wonder how many sleepless nights occur for those who know about every credible threat against New York City and is there a sleeping aid strong enough to help.

Once again the Reagan family was on the front lines to keep the city safe and what fun would Blue Bloods be if they weren’t?

One of the things that struck me was that the police came down hard on people who were trying to do the right thing. First Eddie accused the waitress of being too inebriated to give them credible information. Granted, the woman was working as a waitress in a strip club but she wasn’t slurring her words or obviously drunk or high. She called the police to inform them of a guy who used phrases that scared her enough to report him.

Did no one notice Stass had a Cipriani’s shirt on? The logo was plain as day in that picture. It shouldn’t take a detective to figure out that that could be a lead.

Elsewhere, Danny dragged Nazeem around by the arm like he was a suspect and then treated him like one at the station when they finally got a translator.

I could understand being wary of his information but when the man mentioned having seen three bombs, shouldn’t the very next questions have been where and when? It felt like it took an awfully long time for the NYPD to check out that apartment building.

And is it really that difficult to get a warrant to search a residence when an eye witness says they’ve seen three bombs inside. It’s not like this was an anonymous tip. Nazeem was sitting in the precinct. That sounds like a credible threat to public safety to me.   I know that we all have the right to privacy but it’s scary to think that bombs could have been going off while everyone was trying to figure out how to cover themselves from lawsuits and bad press.

I was also a little surprised they only showed Nazeem the photo of Stass. Wouldn’t a photo array have been a better choice, especially since Danny suspected he might be lying?

One of my favorite Blue Bloods quotes came when Frank and Garrett had to try and calm Sid, who couldn’t stand just waiting for news to come through…

This is the hard part, Sid. The time between doing everything we can think of and finding out if it worked.

Frank

I can imagine that that must be a little piece of hell.

The fight between Danny and Stanislav at the end was brutal. From the glass breaking to the eye gouging, it had me cringing from beginning to end.

All of my nitpicking aside, I really enjoyed this season premiere. it’s great to have the Reagan family back on my screen; I’ve missed them.

So is ignorance really bliss? Probably, especially when the threat is passed and there is nothing more to be done. Perhaps not so much when it comes to your teenage son’s underaged drinking. Sean’s “Read the room, bro.” was just hysterical.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 2 Review: Absolute Power

Danny Reagan, New York city's super cop, was at it again on Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 2, and this time his antics let a serial killer get away.

The “killing field,” as Danny called it, was horrific, as young women were murdered, posed and left to decompose in the woods. I won’t even hold Danny’s comment about how “if the killer was smart, he’d turn himself in” against him, but I do question why that reporter was allowed into the middle of an active crime scene.

Of course Danny’s off the cuff remark only spurred the killer to step up his game and taunt Danny to find him. The moment Baez relayed the realtor’s name and address to Danny I knew what was about to happen next. Why did Baez even bother telling Danny to wait for her? He never does.

The moment Danny broke into that house on his own, I was waiting for him to get a hammer to the head. Not only did charging ahead without backup almost get him killed, it let the killer get away to start over again.

Did anyone else feel a sense of deja vu from last week’s Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 1 when Danny was in hand to hand combat with the mad bomber? We’re only two episodes into this season and already Danny has single handedly tried to take down two bad guys. Last week Danny won the fight, but this time things didn’t work out in his favor…or that of the young women the killer will be targeting in whatever city he ends up next.

At what point does Danny get called out for not following standard protocol? It’s gotten so bad it’s almost comical. Will there ever be any consequences, or is this the upside of being a Reagan?

The one person who looked like they’d had enough was Linda. The expression on her face in the hospital was one of fury. At what point does she get tired of his lone cowboy routine putting his life on the line?

Elsewhere, Frank faced off with both Mayor Poole and the woman who wanted his job. Frank’s answer to Katherine’s threats was telling…

You're threatening to fire me from a job you don't control that you can't know I want.

Frank

How much Frank wants to remain Commissioner has been in question since last season. I got the feeling here that if he ended up getting fired, he’d simply shrug his shoulders and move on to whatever comes next. Perhaps that attitude or lack of fear makes doing the right thing a little easier.

I enjoyed Frank’s calm response to the mayor in this Blue Bloods quote when he tried to force him to hand over the results of the investigation…

Mayor Poole: Who are you trying to protect?
Frank: Nobody in particular, just the standards of this office.

Moments like that are why I love Frank Reagan.

Jamie and Eddie were saddled with investigating her father being beaten in prison. The entire case was really just a way of finally tying up the loose end of Eddie’s estranged relationship with her father. It was such a side note to the rest of the episode that’s it’s hardly worth mentioning, but I am looking forward to seeing Jamie and Eddie front and center in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 3

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 3 Review: All the News That's Fit to Click

What is the danger of a journalist being at the center of his own story? Lorenzo Colt found out the hard way in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 3

The moment Colt showed up for his ride along with Jamie and Eddie it was obvious there was going to be trouble. He had no interest in real police work. All he cared about was the adrenaline rush. Unlike Frank, I don’t necessarily believe that every 25-year-old is this untrustworthy, but Lorenzo certainly fit the stereotype.

Who Is the Target? - Blue Bloods

It wasn’t so much that he only cared about the story as much as he wanted to be the center of the it. Putting his shooter away meant nothing to him. Stopping a possible cop killer was a nonissue. All he wanted was to be able to post the video of his exclusive interview. For a while, I actually wondered if Colt had paid the man to do the shooting just to get a more outrageous story.

When Garrett noticed Colt’s spy glasses, he told Jamie and Eddie that Colt was known for his “gotcha” style interviews he conducted with hidden cameras. Was this really a guy who the NYPD wanted to give special access? What made Garrett think that Lorenzo wasn’t planning to play “gotcha” with them?

The tension between Garrett and Frank had been brewing since last season. They’re both stubborn men who easily become entrenched in their own point of views. I normally really enjoy the way they spar, but I was a little taken aback by Garrett so openly discussing his issues with Frank with someone who wasn’t a part of their immediate inner circle. It didn’t feel so much like venting as much as bordering on disloyal.

Frank having Jim offer Garrett that high paying job was a little underhanded, but I suppose if you want someone to decide if they really want to be doing what they’re doing, that’s a pretty expedient way of getting the answers.

At least they both ended up on the same page by the end…

Garrett: A three percent raise?
Frank: Hey, we're city employees, what did you expect?

I appreciated that this episode wasn’t quite as Danny-centered as the previous two, but I would have enjoyed seeing a bit more of Jamie and Eddie. I wish the ride along hadn’t been cut short by a bullet.

I was happy to see that the aftermath of Linda’s shooting was finally being touched upon. No one gets gunned down, especially at their place of work, and then simply bounces back. When Henry asked her if something was wrong, I was relieved she actually spoke up in this Blue Bloods quote

There is something wrong. There is something very wrong with the fact that every time that this family sits down for dinner we have to talk about crime and criminals. Couldn't we just for once just, you know, sit together and have a normal family dinner.

Linda

In a family full of cops and attorneys, that is normal dinner conversation. As if to prove that point, Frank then walked in to announce that Lorenzo Colt was dead.

It was hard to muster any sympathy for Lorenzo, he was a naive, arrogant fool who thought he could side step the justice system and bully a career criminal who had already shot him once. The only one surprised when Hix tossed Lorenzo off the roof was Lorenzo.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 4 Review: With Friends Like These

$

I pondered many questions while watching Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 4 such as, Can a gun look that clean after spending 15 years on a rooftop? What happens when a witness flees WITSEC? And who do you call when the idiots having the brawl are members of NYPD and FDNY?

Let's start from the top. The moment those two cops showed up with that gun in the bag I thought they had to be kidding. Did Erin really believe that after 15 years, they happened to uncover the gun from the cold case she had just reopened?

Erin's Informant - Blue Bloods

That seemed like a huge piece of luck, a completely unlikely coincidence, or one of them was a dirty cop.

Unsurprisingly it turned out to be the latter. The biggest twist in the case was when Vincent turned back up in Erin’s office after being shipped to Iowa via WITSEC. Apparently Iowa was too boring for the old mobster. He wanted to come back and was able to give the current mob boss an alibi if they took the price off his head.

But the bigger question is, can Vincent actually trust his new deal? Who’s to say the mob doesn’t kill him for being a rat after he gives his testimony and now that Brock is being prosecuted for the murder, Grassioso doesn’t need Vincent around at all.

Frank had his own issues to deal with as the NYPD and FDNY started throwing punches in a city ER. There was obviously way too much testosterone and not nearly enough brain cells in that room.

The NYPD and FDNY have always had a rivalry, but at what point does it begin to put the citizens of the city at risk. I found it really disheartening to see that fighting even colored the relations between the commissioners.

Jamie and Eddie’s story was the most compelling. Just how much training do NYPD officers receive on recognizing and handling the mentally ill? They aren’t necessarily criminals but, like Jenny wielding that knife, could be equally dangerous.

The truth is that there are too few resources to make a dent in the problem but that shouldn’t mean everyone just throws their hands up in the air and walks away. As Jamie told Danny in this Blue Bloods quote

Danny: Can't save everyone.
Jamie: We can try.

I appreciated how Eddie told Jamie that she would have shot Jenny if things had gone wrong. As much as I wanted Jenny to get help, in that moment it would have been Eddie’s job to protect her partner.

Jamie may not have been able to save Jenny but perhaps her death can help bring about change for others. With Frank’s help, Jamie could be the person to make a difference.

This was the first Danny-light episode this season. Did you miss having him front and center?

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 5 Review: Back Stabbers

$

Betrayal and the ability to move on from it was the theme of Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 5. It turned out that everyone dealt with being betrayed in different ways.

I felt for Sid Gormley. What a blow, to not only believe his wife was having an affair but to think it was with someone he had trained and respected. It was hard to blame him for losing it the way he did with Frank and as much as Frank hated the ultimatum, he seemed to understand why Gormley made it. If he hadn’t, I don’t think he would have asked Garrett to get answers.

Escapted Convicts - Blue Bloods

They have become quite a team. All three of them, Frank, Sid, and Garrett, are so very different and yet when they work together they can accomplish almost anything.

Can they help save Sid’s marriage? The first step was getting Sid to go home and actually talk to his wife. After that, anything is possible.

Nicky’s friend Chrissy came across as the typical, idealistic college activist. Unfortunately, in this case, she was using her causes to mask some deeper, personal issues. The moment Erin retrieved the surveillance video I knew it would show Chrissy writing the threats on her own door. Did she just want the attention? Did she need to be the victim? It’s hard to say.

What I found curious was Nicky’s reaction to Chrissy’s suicide attempt. A few days before, Nicky hadn’t even told Chrissy her entire family was in law enforcement and yet she felt betrayed that the girl hadn’t confided in her before trying to kill herself. Perhaps it’s simply that college relationships can seem very intense, especially freshman year.

I also thought it ironic that idealistic Nicky was ready to avoid trusting anyone after this one betrayal. As Frank told her in this Blue Bloods quote

You're good people and good people try to move on from a betrayal like it's an exception not the rule.

Frank

If we held onto every betrayal, the world would be a very isolating and lonely place.

Which leads us to Danny.

Rose obviously had a lot of tough breaks, from an abusive husband to a prison sentence for killing him but it appeared Danny did all he could to help her. From visiting and exchanging letters to personally looking in on her teenage son, how many cops do that for someone they’ve arrested?

Unfortunately Rose didn’t seem to take responsibility for any of her bad choices and blamed Danny instead. Her fate was sealed the moment she and Trina broke out of prison. Between the video of the two of them stealing guns and beating up people along the way, the best Danny could do was try and make sure she didn’t get shot when she turned herself in.

But Rose didn’t see it that way. When she didn’t come to Danny the moment he stepped out of his car I knew something was off. When she pulled the gun on Danny I was surprised the Marshals didn’t shoot her on the spot. I don't think I would have blamed them if they had.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 6 Review: Rush to Judgement

The Reagan family was under attack in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 6 as Frank’s issues with Reverend Potter spilled over onto the others, specifically Jamie.

The moment Jerry Guerrero saw the name Reagan on Jamie’s uniform it was the equivalent of a shark sensing blood in the water. He couldn’t wait to go in for the kill.

Restricted Duty - Blue Bloods

It was ironic that Danny’s the one who gets all of the police brutality complaints but Jamie was the member of the family taking the most heat. As much as I like Jamie, he didn’t handle it all that well.

Jamie was upset with his father over being placed on modified duty as though his father had ordered it. Hasn’t Jamie been a cop long enough to know what happens when someone on the force is being investigated? The person I really felt sympathy for was Frank. He had to deal with the backlash whether he was hands off or if he attempted to help. There was really no way for him to win.

All Frank really seemed to want was to take his son to a movie which was sweet. I thought it was a shame that Jamie didn’t take him up on the offer.

Jamie actually came across almost bratty at the family dinner. I really expected more from him than that. The one thing that I did sort of understand was his trepidation with Eddie. Jamie would never want her to lie for him but when she said she had to look out for herself, I wasn’t sure what she was implying.

The biggest problem I had was that Danny was assigned the rape case against Jerry. With everything else going on, I can’t imagine they’d assign a Reagan to that case.

Frank walked the line when he tried to strike some sort of a deal with Reverend Potter but the Reverend clearly asked for too much as Frank pointed out in his own unique way in this Blue Bloods quote

Reverend Potter: I've been waiting a long time for this. Frank Reagan coming to me hat in hand.
Frank: I don't wear hats.

As much as Potter tries to take Frank down, it’s clear that on some level, he’s smart enough to realize that his own power comes from having a Frank Reagan to rally against.

Finally we had Erin’s case against Chuck McMurder. At first I thought this was going to be about whether a song could be considered a confession. Instead it turned out that Chuck the black rapper was actually a white man who grew up in the suburbs. As Erin pointed out, his supposed street cred wasn’t going to help him much in prison…

We both know that you can't do real time. Once exposed you are going to be the busiest punk in the state system, servicing everyone.

Erin

Chuck knew it too but I was surprised where his story ended. I was very curious to find out if the real murderer would try to make good on his threats to kill Chuck and his family. It felt like a huge loose end to leave dangling.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 7 Review: The Bullitt Mustang

$

Family is complicated, even more so when the family business is the law. Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 7 had Erin facing off with Frank over an old NYPD tradition…fixing tickets.

It was obvious from the start that the DA was looking to pick a fight. If he weren’t, he could have put out a mandate to the NYPD ahead of time saying that fixing tickets for friends and family would no longer be tolerated and laid out the consequences.

Instead he blindsided the department by hauling unsuspecting officers in and charging them with misconduct.

The Mustang - Blue Bloods

Frank was furious but, as usual, civil. Even Garrett was in awe as he said in this Blue Bloods quote

Garrett: You got through that whole conversation without dropping a single curse word. How the hell do you do that?
Frank: I was partially raised by nuns.

It may have been the DA’s decision to play politics with ticketing, but it was Erin who took the brunt of the blow back. Should she have taken on the case?

Alex was trying to be a good friend when he told Erin what other people in the office thought of her and that they believed she played a game of “selective justice” when it came to the NYPD.

So Erin learned that her colleagues didn’t trust her, her boss was testing her, and then ended up going head to head with her father while taking flack from Henry, Jamie and Danny over dinner.

Talk about a lousy birthday.

Sometimes it feels as though Erin is becoming just as miserable with her job as Frank appears to be with his. They certainly don’t seem to be enjoying the family business.

Jamie and Eddie pulling over the judge was petty, but certainly fun. When he called Eddie Jamie’s “cute little partner,” I was hoping they could have done worse than ticket him.

Frank’s visit to the precinct had everyone paying attention. As with many of the old traditions, Frank realized that fixing tickets was on its way out and that the best he could do was deal with it and protect his officers from the current fallout as best he could.

Danny and Baez took on the case of the stolen Ford Mustang from the Steve McQueen movie “Bullitt”

I’ll admit, I’ve heard of the classic film but have never seen it, which may be why this storyline didn’t pack much of a punch for me. By the time the car was driving up to the hauler, I had figured out that Owen had stolen his own car.

The mystery of the car seemed kind of silly; that his dad bought a replica and hid the real one from everyone, even his son and his mother continued to do so after her husband’s death. Talk about a wacky family.

Serial killer Thomas Wilder returned in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 8, but was this the last time we’ll be seeing him?

No one can say Thomas isn’t presumptuous. Not only did he go back and kill the victim who got away, but he left her body outside of Danny’s church to taunt him. Then he pretended to be Danny Reagan and waited for the detective to catch up with him.

Thomas’ mother was almost as disturbing as her son when she explained how Thomas liked to play with dead animals as a boy. When she told Danny, “You make sure you get Thomas some help because he really likes to kill things,” all I could think was that the only help Thomas needed was to be locked up or put down.

When Danny searched that apartment with Baez outside, I kept wishing he’d call for backup, especially since the last time he confronted Thomas he got smacked in the head with a wrench because he didn’t call for backup!

Later, as Danny and Baez approached the boat, and she mentioned it was still tied to the dock as the motor revved, I knew it was going to explode.

Was that Thomas inside? I doubt it. I’m guessing we’ll see Thomas Wilder again sometime soon.

Back home, Danny’s marriage was struggling whether he chose to admit it or not. As much as Danny hated seeing the therapist, I was proud of him for going and voicing at least some of his feelings. He truly wants to fix things for Linda, he just doesn’t know how.

What he might be missing is that this may encompass more than just Linda’s shooting. That may have triggered her PTSD, but it’s being fueled by the stress of a job that puts him in constant danger. This time around even his family ended up being a target.

Elsewhere, Jamie went head to head with a Sergeant who literally had a death wish. That story didn’t play out anything like I expected. Gormley did the only responsible thing when he took the man off the streets.

Jamie and Eddie’s superhero debate was a hoot. Jamie likes Spiderman because he’s a regular guy from Queens. Eddie’s a Wonder Woman fan who appreciates her rocking those red boots.

I was happy that Eddie called out Jamie on telling her she can find another partner every time they have an argument. That comeback has gotten old.

Finally we get to Frank speaking at Columbia University…

Garrett: Most north eastern liberal arts institutions are not known for respect or appreciation for agencies of law enforcement.
Frank: Preaching to the choir is for showboats and sissies.

I was proud of Frank for knowingly walking into the lion’s den simply because he had made the commitment and said that he would. What happened when he arrived there was sad because it was so close to reality.

College should be a place where people listen to and debate opposing viewpoints, not scream loud enough so no one else can be heard. It’s a sad commentary on our society that what happened in this scene has become more the norm than the exception.

As Nicky told Frank in this Blue Bloods quote

Some of the groups are incredibly tolerant, inclusive of a whole wide range of things but...it's like an approved list and if you're not on it then you've got to watch out.

Nicky

That certainly sounds like the opposite of tolerant and inclusive to me.

The one thing I wished for was that Frank hadn’t left. That he’d taken off his jacket and waited until the screamers grew hoarse and the room grew quiet enough to speak or answer questions because if even one person would have listened, that would have been a victory.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 9 Review: Hold Outs

Frank Reagan said he was closer to the end of his journey with the NYPD than the beginning in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 9 and as much as that’s true, it’s far from over.

Frank has obvioiusly grown tired of the posturing, the little digs, and the politics that waste his time but unfortunately come along with the job, but there’s still work to be done and he seems willing and able to do it.

While Frank struggled with his decision, both his coworkers and his family worried about how the consequences would affect them and the city if he chose to quit.

Interestingly, and to his credit, it was Danny that was most concerned about what such a change would do to his father as he explained in this Blue Bloods quote

For him moving on is going to be less like letting go and more like letting go of an arm or a leg. If he needs our support he's going to need our support to let go. Support is only worth what it costs you to give it.

Danny

Back at work, Erin was forced to ditch her vacation plans and take over ADA Kelly Blake’s case that ended with a hung jury.

I couldn’t remember when Erin and Kelly had tangled in the past but there must be something there because Erin came off like a serious witch when she discussed the case with Kelly. She can’t be the first ADA to end up with a hung jury and I found it hard to blame her for not pulling out all the stops to find a junkie hooker who disappeared and probably would have made a poor witness on the stand.

Of course that hooker being murdered turned out to be the key to solving the case. The moment there was doubt about the defendant, it became obvious that the culprit had to be the wife but her boyfriend was a twist I didn’t expect.

As much as I enjoyed Anthony as the investigator working with Erin, I missed Alex. He and Erin have such wonderful chemistry that I really want to see more of it.

I was a bit disappointed in Jamie and Eddie’s case if only because I had hoped to see more of them undercover as an old married couple. They were kind of cute together but when Jamie later promised the man on the street that he’d find answers, I thought the same thing that Eddie did…

I seem to recall a guy who looks just like you telling me that a cop should never make a promise that they can't keep.

Eddie

But Jamie did keep his promise, even if I did think making it was unwise and made him sound a bit self righteous. Sometimes I worry that all of the Reagans have a bit of super cop mentality.

One of the best moments was when Jamie pulled out his Harvard Law School Alumni card. I wonder how many cops carry around one of those and how different the force might be if more did.

CBS at Midseason: What Will Get Renewed?

CBS has been a dominant Broadcast network for several years, but they took several risks this season in terms of programming. Did it pay off?

Supergirl has done OK on Monday nights. It started high and dropped a lot, before leveling off at OK ratings.

It's obvious with some of the shows CBS has this season, that they are trying to go after the younger audience. It's not surprising considering there is still money to be made by catering for 18-49 year olds.

None of the new CBS shows have been outright flops, but they won't all be making the cut for sophomore runs.

1. The Big Bang Theory

The big bang theory
The show is down almost 10%, but is still the number 1 show on the network. A 3.96 rating among 18-49 is a smash hit these days. Among total viewers, it's averaging 15.51 million viewers. Over on the DVR, the show is gaining over 60% within a week. The show is already renewed, unsurprisingly.

2. NCIS

Ncis
This show has declined less than 10% this season, continuing to rate very well. Season 13 is averaging a 2.22 rating among people 18-49 and 16.91 million viewers. Delayed viewing on DVR's is adding just under 40% per episode this season. This show isn't going anywhere.

3. Life In Pieces

Life in pieces
After a big drop between the first and second episodes, this comedy has stabilized at renewable numbers. It is losing half of it's Big Bang lead-in, but it's currently the third highest rated show on CBS. DVR ratings aren't all that for this show, but I expect it to at least see a partial sophomore run, away from The Big Bang Theory.

4. Supergirl

Supergirl
After a high flying premiere, Supergirl declined sharply and is averaging a 1.93 rating and 8.66 million viewers. The show is adding over 40% with DVR. The numbers won't be what CBS hoped, but it's stabilized and is currently looking good for a renewal. Any more erosion, then the axe could swing come May.

5. Scorpion

Scorpion
Scorpion is down over 20% in Season 2 and is currently averaging a 1.81 rating and 9.48 million viewers. The show is gaining over 50% more viewers in delayed viewing. Add that to the stellar live ratings and you have an easy renewal.

6. NCIS: New Orleans

Ncis new orleans
The sophomore run is currently down just under 20% to a 1.68 rating and 12.96 million viewers. The show adds a meagre 20% with DVR, but it's live ratings and the fact it's part of the NCIS brand will see it run another few years.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 10 Review: Flags of Our Fathers

Frank wrestled with a case of free speech versus offensive behavior in Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 10 while Danny was saddled with a case he couldn’t win…or could he?

Demonstrations of some sort are held almost every day in New York City. It’s so common that most New Yorkers barely notice them as they walk past, but this one was expected to be different.

Why? Because they planned to burn the American flag in the name of peace.

Burning the Flag - Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 10

The issue brought up a lot of strong feelings both in Frank’s office and at the Reagan dinner table, but it was Frank and Garrett’s quips about the group’s name that made my favorite Blue Bloods quote of the night…

Frank: Battle for Peace is an oxymoron.
Garrett: Emphasis on moron.

In an odd way, everyone at the Reagan dinner was correct. Burning the flag is offensive to many, and people have the right to be angry, but if we limit freedoms because we find them offensive then what will we be left with?

Frank’s handling of the situation was both clever and downright sneaky. He issued the permits because it was the law. He made sure that the police were doing their job by protecting the protestors, and then, due to security issues, he moved the protest to a different venue which just happened to be the cemetery where the leader’s father was buried.

Was that the right way to handle the situation? I’m not entirely sure, but no one can say it wasn’t creative.

Elsewhere, Danny faced a dilemma of his own when a former partner planted evidence to make sure a murderer was convicted of a heinous double homicide.

No doubt that Danny was put in a tenuous position as he struggled to piece together enough evidence seven years after the crime to keep Marcus Donovan behind bars, but I can’t say I agree with Danny’s final decision.

Whether to submit the eye witness’ testimony was the type of decision that would leave Danny feeling lousy no matter which road he chose, but I think he should have handed Erin that envelope anyway. Danny suspected that Reed had bullied the witness into testifying, but he didn’t doubt that the man had actually witnessed the killings. Did the concern that he was possibly motivated by fear of retaliation from a former cop really negate his testimony, especially since it was fear of retaliation from the murderer that kept him from testifying in the first place?

Finally, we had Jamie and Eddie’s story which was the weakest link in the episode, as they chased down Lilly to try and convince the 13-year-old girl not to throw her life away after a cop had shot and killed her father.

I wish Jamie and Eddie got meatier storylines; they seem to continually get saddled with the side stories meant to pluck at our heartstrings.

Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 11 Review: Back in the Day

"Everything changes" was the underlying theme of Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 11, as Frank came face to face with a past he wasn’t sure he could be proud of, and Jamie and Eddie got a glimpse at differing paths for their futures.

Frank Reagan was completely torn when ex-partner and pal Lenny decided to write a tell all book about their exploits as cops on the streets. Why? Because he wasn’t sure his current image could withstand the walk down memory lane.

Frank Worries - Blue Bloods

The question was, should the past change the way Frank is seen at his current job? Garrett certainly believed it would…

What I do know is if that book gets published, you're handing your enemies a bat to beat you with, with nails sticking out of the business end.

Garrett

But no one ever said that Frank and his cohorts did anything illegal. Certainly much of what they did is either frowned upon now or against regulations, but the standards were different then. Garrett was right in that Frank’s enemies would certainly look to use this book against him, but should that concern trump everything else?

Danny and Jamie held a mirror up to Frank, and he didn’t seem entirely pleased with the pristine image…

Danny: You're like the pope of cops.
Jamie: You're infallible.

Because Frank isn’t, and he knows it. He may have preferred to keep those stories private, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t true. Will the fallout be bad enough that Frank would consider retiring after it’s published? Anything is possible, but I know it’s a book I’d love to read just the same.

Erin and Tony faced an intriguing corruption case concerning $3 billion of state money going to rigged bids for rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy. As someone who lives in the NYC area, I wonder how much truth was peppered into this story because years later there are supposedly still places that haven’t been rebuilt.

When David Harris overheard Erin’s conversation and went for his office, I knew exactly what he was about to do. Erin got lucky that he didn’t have time to pull the trigger because I can’t imagine how long it would have taken to build a rock solid case against Senator Harris, especially with that kind of money, power, and the mob behind him.

Elsewhere, Jamie and Eddie realized that their futures may take different paths. Eddie wants to be a detective while Jamie explained why he’s not headed down that road in this Blue Bloods quote

For now, I like the idea of actually preventing something bad from happening instead of mopping up after it.

Jamie

As for the Officer in Trouble call, I saw both sides. Eddie was following orders, and her instincts helped put a dangerous criminal who was doing home invasions behind bars.

Jamie’s first thought was for a fellow officer in need of assistance, but by the time he ran the two blocks to get there, there were plenty of other cops that had already showed up. I’m also not sure that ditching his partner under any circumstances was the right move to make.

Either way, it seems clear that these two may be moving on from their patrol car in the near future. Will the end of their professional partnership mean that they’ll be free to start a more personal one? We’ll have to wait and see.

Finally there was Danny. I applaud Danny’s ability to get his son to open up and his desire to help, but his plan could have gone horribly wrong. Yes, it seems like a funny prank, but if Jack got caught, I could just imagine the headlines: Police Commissioner’s Grandson Poisons Fellow Student!

In this day and age, Jack could have gotten expelled or even had charges filed against him. I actually had a knot in my stomach waiting to see if there would be fallout from this stunt.

So what do you think? Should Frank have banned the book? Did Eddie or Jamie make the right call, and am I taking Danny’s plan too seriously?

Check back next week for my review of Blue Bloods Season 6 Episode 12, and if you can’t wait for more of the Reagan family, you can watch Blue Bloods online  here at TV Fanatic.
